According to a November 1981 DMC Newsletter “DeLorean Motor Company is working with their dealers and DuPont towards offering painted versions at the dealer level. Currently, a couple of painted DeLoreans – one red and one black – are said to be under evaluation at the company’s West Coast office, along with a variety of tape-stripe treatments.
