Where should we start in addressing work/life balance issues with the head teacher, who seems to be a complete ‘workaholic’?
5) Work/life balance is quite a personal matter and is difficult to define and measure but as the governing body you do have a responsibility to ensure that the head teacher’s workload is kept to a reasonable level. One way to start might be to review the governing body’s practices, in relation to the head teacher’s workload – for example meeting schedules and committee structures. Another strategy might be to agree a work/life balance objective with the head teacher at his/her next annual performance review.
