Where should I install the Openreach modem and broadband router?

We recommend that you install both the Openreach modem and broadband router together and connect them together using one of the supplied ethernet cables. You can run a longer ethernet cable between them if you wish but this may make diagnosing problems harder. You will need 2 power sockets one for the modem and one for the router plus any equipment (PC, games console, etc.) you connect to the router as well as your phone of fax machine if you are using the master socket. We’d recommend using the master socket if possible but recognise this may not be convenient for a lot of people. In these cases the extension cable can be used. The extension cable is up to 30 metres long so the think carefully where you want it located. With the speeds that FTTC offers in the future you may also be using it for delivering TV, voice or other services.
