The University of Twente is located close to Enschede, a modern and lively university town with a rich industrial heritage revealed through many well-preserved historic buildings. The most notable monuments are the lovely town hall, several beautiful churches and a unique synagogue. The old market place, the historical heart of the city, is particularly well worth a visit. Large-scale urban renewal has also given Enschede a new skyline, which includes eye-catching contemporary architecture.
