Where is thre more to do on holiday – Mexico or Guatemala?
Hi there. I’m a Missouri native but I lived in Guatemala for 2 years and that is my husband’s home country. I also studied in Guadalajara, Mexico for a couple of months. My recommendation hands down is GUATEMALA. It is an incredibly beautiful place with warm, welcoming, kind people. It is chock full of culture, color, and fun. As the other contributors wrote, Antigua is the place to go, especially for Semana Santa. I actually lived in Antigua for several months before settling into San Lucas (about 1/2 hour away) I’ve travelled to several countries and seen incredible things, but nothing beats Antigua in my mind. I love it there and miss is like crazy. One of the other posters said it’s really safe. For the most part it is but I would caution you that it’s not as safe as it appears. My husband and I were robbed at gunpoint for my cell phone. That is actually the reason I returned to the States. I was however talking on my cell at the time. Use common sense.
