Where is the trailer “plug in” on a 2001 Nissan Xterra 4×4 SUV?

I have a 2001 Xterra. I bought a trailer, and already have a tow hitch on my car, but can’t seem to find where to plug the trailer into. I can’t find anywhere that has the “plug in”…any advice? No Wisecracks please! A: It’s possible that your car has a hitch, but was never wired for trailer lights. It’s also possible that the previous owner got tired of seeing the trailer light plug hanging down from the rear of the car, and removed it, or tucked it up out of the way under the bumper or into the taillight wiring harness. If you can’t find the flat four-pin connector anywhere under the rear of the car, then you’ll just have to have another one installed. Check with a local auto parts store to see if they have a harness that just plugs into your existing wiring, or you can have wiring done by any shop that installs hitches.
