Where is the spare tire mounted?
• Under the rear. Why? Several reasons. First, cargo room is preserved and not cluttered by the spare. Second, an outside mounted spare means a really expensive repair if you back into something or someone hits you from behind (remember, the tire goes into the glass and causes a great deal of damage). Third, the spare provides an extra cushion to dissipate crash energy in a rear collision. Fourth, it just looks better.
