Our Chief Wanzagi Secondary School for Girls is located in the northeastern section of Tanzania called the Mara or Lake District. It is part of the very rural village of Buturu, in the Diocese of Musoma. The School is on top of a steep hill. There is nothing around us except wilderness and, in the distance, Lake Victoria. I never expected to see such remoteness—but the area is beautiful—just NOTHING around. The Resurrection Fathers have a mission outstation here in Buturu, but their parish is in the neighboring village of Butamia, a distance from us. It’s a good walk to their church. They have six other outstations to service, so they only get to each one every two to three weeks for Mass. Most of the girls’ families live quite a distance away from our village, and they have to travel a long time by bus and on foot to get here.
