Where is the right place to Gaff a Big Halibut?
The correct place to gaff any fish is in the head….If you go on any “good” “charter boat”…not a “party boat” they will try and gaff any good fish in the head…Why?…Mainly because if you gaff it any place it will stress the meat and blood will run into other parts of the meat spoiling the meat…This is especially true if fish that you want to eat fresh and in Sashimi type fish…If you take fish to a commercial market that is gaffed in the side or stomach you will get less money for it….And that’s a fact!!!
