Where is the red-light district in New York?
There is no real “red-Light” district in New York City, though at various times over the years certain neighborhoods had more problems with prostitution and solicitation than others. Until its renovation the Times Square area and west side (from the river/12th avenue to 9th avenue from 42-55 streets) was an area filled with prostitution. Today, some activity could be found in the Meat packing District, the far west side below 14th street and near the Highway/West Street. However, due to police crackdowns and the revitalization of these neighborhoods, the areas of ill repute are mostly located in the outer boroughs, but they change frequently as NY City police are often active in cracking down in certain neighborhoods to deter activity. Actually, most of the action is done on line now, with call girls advertising on line on forums such as craigslist.
