Where is the proof about risks of passive smoking?
I refer to your article with regard to my decision to ban two local MPs from my pub and the comments expressed on the Western Daily Press Comment page. During my original interview, I avoided the issue of the health implications. I am a lifelong non-smoker and don’t support those who smoke, in the sense that it does cause them harm. My stance is based on the rights and freedoms we as a democracy should be able to enjoy. It is futile to try to explain to those who are anti-smoking that passive smoke is no more than an irritant to pre-existing conditions. The science clearly supports this view, if one actually reads the research rather than just rely on the press releases from the Department of Health or ASH. However, I think it is important to put the health record straight. The smoking ban was introduced to protect worker health, not as has now become the norm to say, public health.
