Deputy sheriff trainees attend the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium located at Evergreen College in San Jose, California, or Gavilan College in Gilroy, California. This is a non-residential academy. The academy training is approximately 6 months during which the trainee is paid. After successful completion of the academy the trainee is promoted to the position of deputy sheriff.
