Where is the pilot light for a gas oven?

0

If your oven is less than 15 years old it will have an electronic ignition ceramic element in the oven cavity, located right at the rear of the burner assembly that must glow cherry red and allow a certain amount of voltage to pass through to the safety gas valve at the base of the broiler area in the rear, so it can open. If it’s older than that, it may have a standing pilot, which can be relit by using a match, a piece of paper, my personal favorite, a butane match like the ones used to light BBQ’s. If there is a pilot that is out, then there is gas escaping through the pilot orifice constantly so it should be relit as soon as possible. If it doesn’t have a standing pilot, then there’s no way you should be smelling gas unless there’s something wrong with the safety gas valve. If you are trying to relight a pilot you may want to wave a small piece of cardboard, in the broiler cavity to move most of the gas out of there before putting a lighted match or whatever in there.
