We are going to find out something about the character of this Penn State team today. After last week’s game eliminated all of their goals for this season, a Big Ten Championship and a BCS Bowl Game, how the Lions respond today will reveal the kind of leadership they have. Talent-wise, Indiana cannot match up with the Lions. However, they are more than capable of scoring lots of points. If this Penn State team does not come out ready to play today, they could find themselves in a significant hole by halftime. Because halftime adjustments have not been the strength of this team this year, they could find themselves in a real battle. If Penn State comes out ready to play, this game should not be close. My prediction, Indiana scores early but the Lions are ready and start to pull away by halftime.
The University of Pennsylvania put a scare into NIT champion Penn State last night, but in the end, Nittany Lions junior guard Talor Battle proved to be too much for the Quakers. Battle scored 17 first-half points and finished with 27 as the Lions handed Penn a 70-55 defeat at the Bryce Jordan Center in the season opener for both squads. Although his team was within striking distance in the second half, Penn coach Glen Miller thought his team made too many mistakes. “Before the game, I talked to our team about all the small things being critical to have a chance against a team like Penn State,” Miller said. “The small things are the things you can control – turnovers, going to the foul line. If we want to take a game like this down to the wire, we have to do better in those areas.” Penn turned the ball over 13 times and shot 37.5 percent from the field.
