Where is the mint mark on a 1966 fifty cent piece?
No 1966 coins carry mint marks. During the changeover from silver to copper-nickel coinage, the Mint stopped putting mint marks on all denominations of coins. The idea was to reduce the number that were being removed from circulation by collectors. Congress decided that collectors would save only half as many coins if there was only one variety of each denomination.
