where is the lowest place on earth that man has ever managed to reach?
The lowest easily accessible spot on dry land is the Dead Sea, about 400 meters below sea level. However, even the deepest explored caves and mines don’t approach the depths of the Mariana Trench. The deepest point in the oceans is at Challenger Deep, a section of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean (10,920 meters below sea level). In 1960, Dr. Jacques Piccard and Lt. Donald Walsh were the first to explore this region inside a submersible vessel. In 2005, numerous single celled organisms were found in a soil sample pulled from the sea floor at Challenger Deep. Some of the researchers were surprised to find so many organisms living in this extreme environment – the pressure on the sea floor is equivalent to have 50 jumbo jets piled on top of you.
