WHERE IS THE HIP-HOP IN RAP MUSIC?
–Like anyone really cares where the hip-hop is. I don’t even think people realize what hip-hop is. People think that hip-hop is just rap music that the “urban youths” listen to and the suburban white kids buy. Boy, you couldn’t be farther from the truth. In this thing we call hip-hop there are certain rules and guidelines to be just that but no one seems to respect that. Well lemmie break it down for ya. –Hip-hop is a culture. There are 4 basic elements within this culture. Graffiti also known as taggin’ or bombing; Breakdancing a.k.a. breakin’ or poppin’; DJing or Deejaying; and MCing or Emceeing for the heads that know. Other things constitute as hip-hop such as the slang we use, baggy clothes and a general attitude. But for some reason heads are only seeing the MC point of view. Little do they know the difference between an Emcee and a rapper. A rapper is a person who just performs anything. A rapper is just a personality and nothing more with little or no creativity.
