Where is the flag etiquette event to be held?
All U.S. citizens should be reminded of how to show proper respect for the American flag. They should also be aware that when an American flag is worn, torn, damaged, faded or soiled, it should be replaced and also disposed of in a proper manner. The appropriate method is to “incinerate” the flag. This procedure is not done in public very often and that is why Girl Scout Cadette Troop 50033 is basing their Silver Award project on educating the community about flag etiquette and the proper method of disposal. The troop will be making brochures for the community and teaching youth about the flag of our country. The culmination of our Silver Award project will be to organize and host a flag disposal ceremony with flags collected from local communities. The Girl Scout organizers will be working with the American Legion during this process. If you have a flag that is in such condition that it is no longer fit for use, collection boxes for the ceremony were set up by Girl Scout Troop 50033 a

The flag etiquette event will be held on Sept. 12 and is open to all interested Fairfield county residents. It will be held in the parking lot behind the fire and police department headquarters at Wilton Town Hall. Starting at 5:30 p.m. mini-workshops including instruction and practice will be provided on proper flag-etiquette, flag folding, and various flag ceremonies. This is a fabulous opportunity for students, Boy and Girl Scouts, families and individuals. Please come to learn, share, and honor the flag of our country with other members of our community. For any questions about the event, please contact Sharon Miskinis at 563-9794. Sources:
