The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a nation located in Central Africa. It is the third largest city on the African continent. The country suffered from the repressive law of Belgium, until it achieved freedom in 1960. This country is bounded by Zambia and Angola to the south, Uganda, to its west is the Republic of Congo, to its east lies Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania, and to the north are the Central African Republic and the Sudan. The name ‘Congo’ is derived from the Kongo Empire which was controlled in the pre-colonial times. It covers a land of nearly one million square kilometers. This nation has a population of around 56.6 million. There are around 242 languages spoken here, but the 4 main languages are Swahili, Kongo, Tshiluba and Lingala. However, the official language of the country is French.
