Where is the crankshaft position sensor on 2003 Nissan Altima?

Don’t bother replacing the sensor. There is a voluntary recall for the 2003 Nissan Altima that was issued on 8/26/06. This recall is to address the issue of the crankshaft position sensor placement in the engine. The location of the sensor allows the sensor to overheat interupting the signal to the ECM. The interruption causes the car to stall instantlyand the check engin light will come on. The code returned for the check engine light will read for the crankshaft position sensor. Even if you change the sensor the new one will be affected by the temperature after a short while causing the same problem. The recall will reprogram your ECM to ignore the input for the sensors (there are two on the crankshaft) and should take the dealer approximately 30 minutes to do depending on their schedule. Expect engine efficency to drop after reprograming, after reprograming my gas milage decreased by 4 MPG. Please note that Nissan does not consider this problem to be hazardous so you must voluntaril
