Where is the Carnegie Hill neighborhood in NYC and what is it like?
As mentioned, this is a pretty tony and expensive neighborhood on the Upper East Side, running from Lexington Avenue West to Central Park and from 86th Street to 96th Street (more or less). There are a lot of private schools in the neighborhood, as well as Hunter High School, the 92nd Street YMCA, the upper stretch of “museum mile” and a few restaurants. About 20 years ago, there were almost no restaurants and one smallish supermarket. Today, there’s quite a bit more to choose from and the neighborhood is livelier. Quite a few celebrities keep apartments in Carnegie Hill because it’s upscale, a little out of the way and quiet. On the down side, it’s a terrible neighborhood for parking (unless you pay through the nose for a private garage), not particularly convenient to any of the highways out of town, and unless all you use Central Park for is the jogging path, having the reservoir right there means it’s a bit of a hike to get to a piece of park where you can have a picnic or throw a
