Where is the Best Wine Store in Houston, Texas?
We went to Cova last Friday evening for wine and tapas, after purchasing a discount gift certificate on restaurantsdotcom. We were not disappointed. We each enjoyed a different wine flight (a selection of 3 different specifically paired wine tastes – 2 oz. each) and several tapas/raciones. The cheeses we selected were fantastically unique, and the meats served to accompany the cheeses were delicious. The seared tuna with avocado salad was fantastic, as was the red pepper pizza. We had no problem getting refills on bread with the meat/cheese plate, water, etc. What we didn’t have was a table big enough to hold all our plates and glasses! Our server was friendly, perfectly attentive, and she applied our gift certificate to our bill with no additional delays. I saved the menu to locate some of our choices at Specs for home entertaining. We will definitely return.Pros + Ample servings, friendly waitstaff, creative decorCons – Can get windy outside
The Corkscrew is definitely the best wine bar in town. It’s acomfortable, no-nonsense place you can hang out with your girlfriends, coworkers or on a date, and have a great time. The wine is excellent, the staff is attentive (but not annoying) and they’ve recently added to their menu, kicking it up a notch. The cheese plate is my fav. Paninis are also a good bet.At any rate, my last visit, heard about Wineapalooza… a feastival the Corkscrew puts on annually. It’s October 4th and will feature more than 120 wines, food and music for just $55. Count me in…Pros + This place is anything but stuffy and the wine is fab!Cons – I really don’t have anything negative to say…
The SceneDowntown denizens and savvy partiers from all over town patronize this huge, well-stocked liquor store and specialty foods shop. The GoodsBeer, wine and liquor of all kinds and prices. A walk-in humidor with more than 900 cigars. But you’d really be missing out if you made do with those offerings and didn’t check out the 5,000-square-foot deli and specialty foods shop in the back of the store. Fancy cheeses and chocolates (including Godiva) lead the pack of superlative foodstuffs, which include everything from dried porcini mushrooms to an unusually large quantity of olives in jars. Once your food and drink needs are met, stock up on other necessaries. Spec’s has lots of party-time extras, from glassware and napkins to traveling bar sets and caviar.
Cova is a great place to go if you’re sick of the typical bar scene. The menu is reasonably priced and the food is great. It is fun to sit on the patio on a sunny afternoon or for dinner on the town. The waitstaff is inconsistent; sometimes they are very friendly and knowledgable and other times they don’t know we’re there. Also fun for happy hour at the bar!Pros + Food, Ambience, Great wine selectionCons – Service, limited parking
