The SceneThe old Palbino’s location in Montgomery has been totally redesigned, the Tuscan look replaced by sophisticated tones of gray and abstract artworks. Fresh flowers, candles and the fireplace add softer touches. Bring glasses: The room is dimly lit.The FoodLike other upscale spots around town, Jimmy D’s has made dry-aged steaks the focus of its menu. These steaks are huge, flavorful and perfectly cooked, but side dishes like sautéed spinach, caramelized onions or garlic mashed potatoes cost extra. The rack of lamb for two, pork chop, and veal chop served with crimini mushrooms, tomatoes and mozzarella are other house favorites, and there are a couple of token seafood dishes. The portions are as big as the prices, so lighter appetites may want to make a meal of appetizers, such as the deliciously cheesy oysters Montgomery, beef carpaccio, or crabcakes, combined with a salad, soup or side dishes.
If you appreciated good service, good meat, a good meal served properly. Than you are you will appreciate Morton’s. If not, you will think it is over priced and find a litany of other things to complain about. For me, Morton’s is the Steak House! The meal is always perfect. The steak can be counted on to be first class. Is this a special occasion place? Depends on your pocketbook. It is a great meal. Pros + Great food, first class meat.Cons – none
Have visited this location once before, due only because of the name’s association with the winery in Indiana. The store’s name would lead one to believe that they carry a selection of wines from the vineyard, but they carry none.Pros + Good selection of differing wines.Cons – No wines carried under the location’s namesake.
Consider reserving for a large group. The Vineyard Cafe also owns the Wine Room next door – a Wine Bar atmosphere with a delightful private garden in the rear. We had a private party for 20 (probably could have seated 30) with appetizers and drinks in the Wine Room and then dinner in the garden. Never had so many compliments on a party. The service was friendly and impeccable, the wine list wonderful, and the food was delicious. So many excellent choices on the menu – favorites are the crabmeat artichoke dip appetizer, scallop ceviche, and ravioli balistreri.
