Where is the Best Wine Bar in Seattle, Washington?
Seems like Mona’s just started with their Sunday brunch offering. Went there recently and we were alone with one other couple in the restaurant which isn’t a bad thing if you’re tired of hectic brunch settings with cramped tables and poor service.The brunch menu is reasonably priced and the food tastes great. We even received a complimentary house made donut which was fantastic and I’m pretty sure the owner waited on our table which was a treat. Give the Sunday brunch a try. You won’t be disappointed.
I have frequented many wine bars both in the new world and old world – but rarely do I feel comfortable and at home due to the pretentious nature of wine bars and the some how consistently obnoxious music. Poco is a welcome relief from the other mostly corporate (read east-side founded) wine bars here in Seattle; I finally feel like we have an authentic neighborhood bar focused on one thing; loving wine and sharing it with friends. The atmosphere is hip and appealing with lots of character, but not over the top. The menu rotates to always include amazing boutique wines (at pretty reasonable prices) accompanied with wild descriptions allowing guests and servers to skip the “tech talk” to explain and enjoy a good glass of vino? no need to be a sommelier to enjoy and relax. While visiting friends in Seattle last month (I’m from Berkeley, CA) they invited me out to The Sitting Room in lower Queen Anne. We enjoyed the festive atmosphere and delicious appetizers so much on Saturday night we decided to go back again on Monday. This was such a great little place I thought I should help spread the word.On Saturday, the first thing I noticed was the charming owner, who greeted us at the door and promptly found us a clean table in front. The place was beginning to fill up but his friendly manor seemed to foretell the kind of evening we were to have. Our handsome young waiter patiently answered our questions on the unique small plates menu and he soon filled our table with cocktails (I loved the gin drink with fresh thyme) and tasty dishes that more than satisfied (chorizo with blue cheese & dates, cold-smoked wild salmon, and pate made with free-range nitrate-free pork). I went with several friends for a birthday party. We didn’t have reservations, but they were able to accommodate us after the rush which I found very kind. The wait staff was a little cold, and the restaurant a little hot, but in all it was a good experience. The menu was of a Northwest theme at the time and well designed. I had the chicken dish and it was delicious, though a bit salty. The onion tart was fantastic and alone worth going back for, as was the well designed cheese course. We all tried one another?s dishes, and I don’t think any were disappointed… except the gluten free desert. I am not sure if it was a cake, cookie, or what, but it wasn’t very good. However, I think it is wonderful more restaurants are having gluten free options on their menu. Overall I would say it is a great place in the making. There are some short comings (odd wine list, little overpriced for the offerings, too hot) but I can see with a little more work this could go from a good to great.Pros +
