Where is the Best Waterfront Dining in Austin, Texas?
This is hands down my favorite barbecue in Austin. The quality and taste of the food is outstanding, and the portions are enormous. I have a pretty big appetite, and I usually have two full meals worth of food when I eat here. The atmosphere is great. This place can get pretty busy on the weekend nights, but they have a lovely outdoor waiting area where you can sit by the river and order drinks while you are waiting. They are also quite large so the wait is not perhaps as long as it would be elsewhere given how many people go. You should note that this resteraunt is of the full sit down barbecue style and is therefore sometimes a bit more expensive than other barbecues in Austin, but it is also a nicer overall experience and better food. What a surprise this Lake Travis restaurant was – great food, views, and ambience! That is a unique combination. We drove out the first time along the road past Volente to the Lime Creek Marina and took the marina lift down past the waterfall to this charming cafe hanging over the lake. The mahogany plank flooring, teak tables and chairs, and metal sculptures set the stage for a varied menu. We sampled four dishes $13 to 23 all with yummy sides included. The Snapper Louisiane had a Cajun cream sauce over the crawfish/shrimp.The NY Strip was 10 oz of tender steak covered with blue cheese, scallions, and candied pecans. The Jamaican jerked chicken breast and shrimp stuffed with jack cheese and jalapenos rounded out the entrees. These in addition to the appetizers, wine and drinks made this a must return experience. Our second visit was by boat using convenient free slip by the restaurant. This time we concentrated more on the salads and desserts. Favorites were the Lake Travis Summe
I wasn’t super impressed for the price. I’ve been to a lot of nice places all over the US… and this place just wasn’t worth the price. I went on Valentine’s Day so there was a set menu… and the ambience may have been busier than the norm. Food WAS good, don’t get me wrong. We went there for my 50th birthday on a Saturday at 1:00 p.m. It was already crowded and we probably had about an hour wait; which is the norm from what I had read on other reviews. We had a party of 20 and they crammed us all together to where we were bumping elbows but we made it work by spreading out around the ends of the tables so it wasn’t too bad. The waitress was EXTREMELY nice. I believe her name was Anna (she was pregnant). She was awesome and very friendly. The food…I had their chicken chile relleno and OMG it was delicious!! My daughter had the tubular steak taco which was good as well. The atmosphere was great. Very relaxed. It’s well worth the wait once you get seated. Every once in awhile, I have a craving for something exotic, wild, and different. This is where we go for that. The sauces are unique. The sample platter is a delight of several exotic beasts. The salad is clean and fresh tasting. I think that they even pick dandelions from their backyard, and the cilantro off of the roof. The ambience is simple and refreshing. The people are delightful. This is a popular place, so the parking may be on the creative side and the wait may be longer than you expected. Just keep on drinking your wine and enjoying the unique gardens in the back area.
