Where is the Best Vietnamese Food in San Francisco, California?
Sunflower offers good vietnamese dishes, but the one thing we always order is the Combination Appetizer with beef. This is one of those dishes you’ll go back for time and again. The beef is tasty and perfectly stir-fried, served over thin rice noodles. This also comes with fried eggrolls, mint leaves, sliced cucumber, lettuce leaves and rice paper wrappers to “roll your own” with the tasty fillings. This appetizer dish costs about $11 and is enough to feed 2 hungry people for dinner. Since it seems ridiculous to split one appetizer for dinner, we always order a couple of other dishes…which turns out fine because then we have leftovers to bring home.
I’ve read others talk about their preferences for Northern and Southern styles of Pho but they each have their virtues. TT is probably the best example of Northern. The ingredients are of the highest quality, beef so fresh it falls apart in the bowl and melts in your mouth. I was used to the more savory/spicy southern style so the first time at TT, I loaded up on hotsauce. I also wanted beef ball. Northern pho seems to lack this Southern staple but the rare beef is more than satisfying. I don’t use much sauce now that my palette has adjusted to the subtle northern flavors. Give it a squeeze or two and try to appreciate the subtlety.Everything on the menu is superb. The coffee might be some of the best I’ve had. The food is cheap and outstanding. After hearing high praises about “La Vie”, we gave it a try today. The first impression right after entering the place is the detailed decoration and atmosphere, which gives warm, relaxing feeling. This is an excellent place for a private or romantic dinner date. The Vietnamese dishes served here are refined, meticulously prepared unlike most ordinary Viet restaurants in the city. I highly recommend “La Vie” s Roasted Garlic Crab. Watching the friendly waiter take out the live crab from the seafood tank and tasting the aromatic, sweet, delicious, savory crab is wondrous. We also tried the Pork Belly and Coconut, a Vietnamase pork saute’d to perfection combined with the buttery taste of coconut and Vietnamese spices. There is also an extensive wine list to match the dishes. The waiters are very formally dressed, courteous and attentive. We had a very plesant experience. In fact, our friends agreed to come back here next weekend for our dinner gathering, as there are many more dish
What a fun way to dine with a friend. Delicious and service was excellent. You must see the kitchen, especially after you’ve eaten! You won’t believe all the food that comes out of such a small, clean restaurant. Worth a visit!! Don’t forget to have the fried bananas with coconut or taro ice cream too!Pros + Great food! Great Price!Cons – Very small. Plan to wait for a seat, but worth it!
