Where is the Best Vietnamese Food in San Francisco, California?
Dropped in to this place on a whim and were promptly seated. The waitress started things off right: she was very friendly and helped us select some good dishes. Then two large parties arrived, 6 in one and 12 in another, and our service went to hades in a handcart. We got our food expeditiously alright, and it was not bad. The 5-spiced chicken was a little tough, and I’ve made it more flavorful at home, but it was good. Yet in the end, we felt abandoned due to the larger parties and the waitress acted like the slow flowing Mekong at its widest point when it came to getting our check. Great value everything under $7. Fast friendly service. Pho usually takes less than 5 minutes to get to your table.Vermicelli is light and refreshing and a great alternative on warm days when not in the mood for pho.Tasty imperial rolls.Stick to the vietnamese dishes, they have some chinese dishes which is OK but why go to a vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown for chinese food?Since I’m moved out of the bay area, I miss Golden Star.Pros + Value, Fast service, Great vietnamese
I am a regular at that restaurant. Either by myself (it’s quiet and the service is really not intrusive) or with my friends or customers. I love everything except tofu (there’s a wonderful ratatouille with tofu but i usually request a no-tofu ratatouille). I can almost eat a Bo Bun everyday, it’s a warm salad with veggie and beef, very well-balanced and it cost ten bucks, it’s even better with some fresh Thai chilies…New-York steak is my second favorite, they cook it medium, so i have to insist to have it rare. At my last visit, I was amazed by the garlic noodles, very tasty and wonderfully executed. I remember having had garlic noodles in the past as a side dish, with no veggie, but this one could be a main dish. I’m not a dessert eater, but my guests are happy with their cakes. So go for it, you’ll find something for your taste and the price is reasonable for the quality.
I ate here a while back and I can’t say it was amazing or a one of a kind place. The service was friendly, but somewhat anonymous, the food was good, but nothing to die for, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Having read numerous positive, in fact raving reviews I guess I expected something spectacular…which it didn’t deliver. This is a place worth checking out don’t get me wrong, but don’t go in expecting a life changing experience. Try Mangosteen next door too…I prefer that place. The wait staff is friendlier as it is a smaller, cozier restaurant.Pros + good foodCons – kinda pricey
