I eat lunch at Berrybrook almost every day. They have the best vegetarian homemade soups I’ve ever eaten – even better than Mom’s. And there’s black bean burritos and vegiburgers and vegetarian hot dogs – all really good. I’ve had meat eater friends who said they couldn’t tell the difference. And if that’s not enough they make fresh salads to order and they have cold sandwiches in the cooler. They make fresh juices and smoothies – the absolute best smoothies – all natural – real yummie. The only problem is they have no tables. You can sit on the porch if the weather is good, but its really a take out place. In the good weather months I like to pick up my food and go to the park for lunch. Sometimes I order ahead so they have it ready when I get there to save time. Sometimes I order and then shop in the store while I wait – never a long wait. I get all my vitamins and shampoo and lotions and such there. But the food is always so good its worth it and I don’t mind that they don’t have ta

I give Shanghai 4 stars because I’m a tough grader. This is the best Chinese restaurant I’ve been to in Charlotte. We must not be the only household in the area who relies on it as favorite for take-out, because it’s never packed and has outlived other restaurants who have tried to rent the space next door over the past ten years (currently a Wolfman Pizza). When we do dine-in, the service is attentive and friendly.Everything I’ve had on the menu is superb. Personal favorites include Crab Rangoon & Fresh Spring Rolls for appetizers and Sesame Duo, Mongolian Beef & Sauteed Spicy Eggplant for main dishes.I went to college in New York City and the authentic Chinese dining experience there has revealed to me how much the cuisine has been “Americanized” to suit our taste. Shanghai is Americanized, but the menu has more than a few dishes that separate it from the every-day take-out competition. The slightly higher prices are worth this distinction alone.I consider myself fortunate t

Brought my mom and sister for brunch yesterday. Good thing we made a reservation. It was VERY crowded on a Sunday at 11:30. We were seated within 5 minutes but we did wait a while for our meal. We didn’t leave until 1pm. I was impressed with the large brunch selection. Mom had the bananas fosters french toast that she loved and sis enjoyed the eggs benedict. I had the mushroom fritata. Not as much flavor as i’d hoped but a little salt did the trick. We loved the little warm scone they offered us before the meal – buttery and sweet. Just slightly dissapointed with the wait for the meal (about 30 minutes) but there were some large parties in the room and the waitress was very attentive. I would certainly go back. Also, was sooo close to the East/West Light Rail. Pros + Decor, menu selectionCons – Wait times
