Where is the Best Used Bookstore in Los Angeles, California?

I have heard rumors that Brand Book Shop is the largest used book store in Los Angeles and I am inclined to believe them but even if it isn’t the largest used book store it is certainly my favorite. They always seem to have the title I am looking for, the store is meticulously organized and whenever I can’t find a particularly obscure book, the friendly staff is very helpful in locating the most likely shelf to peruse. Prices are very reasonable since the books are usually in mint or near-mint condition, though rarely exceptional bargains. Another fantastic feature is that the owner will buy your used books. Call in advance to schedule an appointment (since he takes occasional days off) and if you are willing to exchange for store credit you will get an ever better value.Pros + Great Selection, Friendly Staff, Well OrganizedCons – Few chairs

There’s an out-of-print book that I read in college about 10 years ago, and loved, but I’d lost my copy. I’d looked for it every time I’d been in a used book store since then, with no luck. But I found it at Counterpoint.’Nuff said!

I stumbled upon this wonderful, quaint store while shopping on Ventura for shoes. I had been meaning to purchase some new(old) poetry books since I moved out from the east coast and left my massive library behind, but was not expecting to find such high quality in such a tiny shop!To my surprise, the selection wasn’t as small as I had thought by the look of the store, however, when I did find the books I wanted, the prices were a bit higher than I desired. It should be noted though that most of the books are HARD COVERED and OLD FIRST EDITIONS, which of course up the price. If you’re looking for a classic, worn, and weathered book ripe for fresh eyes, this is your spot.Pros + Organization, FriendlinessCons – Price

In my wildest, darkest dreams — I never thought I’d find a store like this!  This store is freakin fantastic!!I dislike horror movies, but love suspense, werewolf and vampire books…go figure.  This place is great- and the owners (husband and wife, I think) are SO HELPFUL!  I love them.  they are not creepy or pushy…Today I went in with some coworkers and said “I want something really suspenseful, mystery, crime, no aliens…vampires & werewolves ok.”  the owner came out and walked me around the store … explained the layout and then pulled some books for me.  I was so pleased.  He even showed me a great area in the back of USED paperbacks and a whole section of USED Vampire paperbacks in a coffin shaped bookcase! LOL  He said “you’ll probably have the best luck back here in used.”  I loved that he wasn’t pushing new stock on me at all…truly there to help me find what I wanted.  I ended up buying a used book and a new book.  There is so much to pick from, I couldn’t decide! They
