Where is the Best Upscale Casual Dining in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?
Gotta say the food at Buca is real good. I’ve been there with my wife and friends a few times and have always enjoyed the food. Taste aside, the place is a bit cramped, especially with bigger groups, and even though they have changed the menu to accomodate couples (they didn’t use to have options for just two people..mostly a group place in the recent past) you are feel a bit limited in what you can get unless the entire party you’re with likes the same things. The worst thing about Buca was made evident to me on our last two visits. The most recent time we’ve been there was disappointing, not because of the food, but we went for a friends birthday party and the host/hostess staff not only ruined the surprise even though they were told not 15 minutes beforehand that it was intended as a surprise, but we were really surprised the way that Buca sends a manager over to tell you when you should leave the restaurant, because they have other people coming in to be seated. Dined at Nakama this past Saturday. I have always enjoyed hibatchi dining and then I went to Nakama and realized what I had been missing. Wow! What a fantastic time. The atmosphere is artistic, the service is great, the chefs are highly skilled and food is delectable. I went with a friend and a bunch of people I had not met before. It was a great setting to talk and get to know each other. Nakama serves the most tender and tasty filet mignon that I have ever had. The presentation of the sushi is absolutely gorgeous. Customer service was great, and I love the decor and ambiance. One thing is always true, a great time is had by all. It’s no wonder the place is always packed!! I highly recommend this restaurant for any and all. Don’t forget to join and become a VIP member for great treatment by management and great discounts sent to you regularly!
Again, stumbled upon this restaurant on a Wednesday night. They had a lot of business, but were able to accommodate us easily. We sat in the covered patio at first — it started to pour so eventually we moved inside to the downstairs area, which they opened because of the rain. It is a very clean restaurant with warm colors (browns and reds). Some quick negatives: The outside patio is almost too dimly lit; the dishes while inventive/complicated do not always deliver; in general I prefer less sauces/salt to my meals. Our dishes: I ordered the pork loin, which was fantastic (and large). It came with butternut squash risotto, which I felt went very nicely with my meat. I also tried a friend’s lamb dish (a bit small) — it was ordered medium, but came out more of a medium rare (however, I prefer rarer so I thought it was delicious). I did not care for the sweetness of the sides that accompanied the lamb, however. As for appetizers — the hummus dish is generous, but did not st
