I finally gave them another go after 10 years of staying away after my initial visit. There was a long BLONDE hair in my salad & when I tried to return it, the waitress implied that it was probably my hair that fell in after she served the dish?.ahem, I am ASIAN, enough said! Then we got charged for not 1, but 2 salads..talk about audacity. Any other restaurant in the country would?ve given me the salad free of charge. I left making the vow to never return again. & was disgusted year after year when they made the top of Zagats list. Fast forward10yrs to Restaurant Week in early ?09. I went with my Mom to celebrate the Lunar New year. The food was tasty, service brisk yet polite. & the ultimate redeeming moment was when the pastry chef decorated our dessert plates with a beautiful illustration of a dragon & an ox, to signify the Chinese horoscopes & in observance of the Year of the Ox which started today. We were so delighted with the personal attention that we asked to meet h

We’ve become regulars at Hearth, and love it. Saturday found the restaurant NOT in good form. We sat down, ordered our meal, and half an hour later, our appetizers had not arrived. It was odd because, fifteen minutes before, the waiter had come by to tell us they were on the way, and he was sorry for the delay. Ten minutes later, we heard the chef yell WHERE ARE THOSE FIRSTS? Talking about ours. We were ready to leave, because that wasn’t the only problem. Then they came out, and the manager came out, with corporate double speak, just making us angrier. Finally, the chef came out, serving us our entrees personally, and apologizing for the “miscommunication.” What miscommunication? There wasn’t any, at least not on our part. The food WAS good, and we enjoyed it and ordered dessert, which was also wonderful. When we asked for the bill, they told us they were comping us on the whole dinner because of their goofs. Could NOT have been more apologetic. We didn’t feel we co

Thursday night was my husband and my 10th wedding anniversary. When I called the Red Cat to confirm our reservation for dinner, I told the reservationist that it was our 10th anniversary and requested a good table. She said she’d reserve one of the corner tables. Due to terrible traffic I ended up being 15 minutes late. My husband was already at the restaurant and told the staff I was late, and they were incredibly nice about it, telling him not to worry and to enjoy a cocktail. I finally arrived, and they brought us to our table, which was in a cozy corner of the restaurant. Next they surprised us each with a glass of champagne to congratulate us. That alone would have left me very pleased with our experience. It got even better. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped us in selecting our wine (an excellent sancerre), appetizers (the seared diver scallops and tempura green beans), and entrees (the salmon and the brook trout). Everything was excellent. The sugar snap, shiitaki, an

I went here for my first time, and thought the food was excellent. I got the apple, walnut, radicchio and gorgonzola salad. My friend got some type of a goat cheese salad with sort of “matchstick” vegetables. My apple salad was scrumptious, and my friend’s goat cheese salad was also very nice. For entrees, I got the veal marsala(?) with shallots and mushrooms. It was divine! The veal was SO tender. My friend got some type of a fish in a pink cream sauce, with beans. I tried a bit, and it was very good. For dessert I got the Po sundae. It was very good although I would have liked a bit more fudge sauce. My friend got what I think was a dessert special that night…a warm apple tart with ice cream. The tart itself was of such a good quality…perfectly flaky. My cappuccino was also excellent. All in all, a wonderful dining experience. The only downside was, the tables are really packed in there…so much so that, in order to sit on the “other side” of the table, it require

Simply said, “THIS IS MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN NEW YORK.” Wow. The decor is incredibly beautiful. There are always fresh flowers. The bar is beautiful. The ceilings are high and the colors put you at rest. The service….it is the best in New York City. The food is fantastic. The drinks are terrific. You can dine in the dining room or in the bar area. They have two different menus…depending of where you sit. I like the bar area for lunch and the dining room for dinner.I take my daughter to Gramercy Tavern every year for her birthday because I know it is special. Try it….you will see.
