Where is the Best Upscale Casual Dining in Kansas City, Missouri?
J. Gilberts is a terrific place for many reasons. Their prices are less than the high end steak houses in Washington and their steaks and other menu choices are simply better than most of the others. One does not pay for a Washington name like The Palm, etc.. which is good but surely not great, and their prices are literally crazy. J. Gilbert’s steaks are out of this world – that simple. Their service is good but not great, however. How someone can say J. Gilberts is ok, average or bad, is beyond me – they must work for the competition!! One would expect to find the quality of J. Gilberts in the heart of downtown – but they are 5 minutes from my McLean, VA home and is a great place, only enhanced by being so close to my house. J. Gilberts is absolutely terrific!! Pros + steaks are unbelievable, desserts yummy, bar very friendly, prices are good for what you get!Cons – service could be more consistent – not bad but could be better
The Melting Pot is a great addition to the Kansas City Country Club Plaza. This restaurant is a fondue restaurant and the only one of it’s kind. Each table has a burner sat in the middle. If you have a larger group you may have two burners on your table which is great because it allows you to enjoy more fondue options. There are many courses available at this place. You often start with a cheese fondue and they have many great options. The Wisconsin trio is my favorite. The fiesta cheese is great too. The cheese comes with veggies, bread and apples to dip in it. Then next is the salad course and they have great salads. The one with the rasberry dressing is great. The meat course isn’t my favorite and since it is the most expensive I will usually skip this. However, they have choice cuts of most meats available and they have different flavored oils that you can fondue your meat in and then sauces for dipping. The last course is the best! Chocolate fondue for dessert. This fondue comes w
La Bodega is on of my favorite restaurants in Kansas City. This is one of only a few place in Kansas City I feel could fit right in with the other great places in New York City. It’s a hip, fun atmosphere, with GREAT tapas and sangria. Be sure to get there during happy hour when many of the tapas and sangria are half price. My favorites there are the potatoes with garlic aolli sauce, the tomato and goat cheese dish and the ahi tuna. There is a waitress there name Chris…You’ll love her!
This is probably the most “comfortable” martini bar you’ll ever find because the couches are great! I have to say, my waitress was totally rude, but that’s why you tip for good service, right? So, I don’t blame the bar itself because I still had a great time. If you like techno, go here, really cool dance floor, the atmosphere is great and those bartenders can shake a REALLY good martini! Well worth the money if you have it.
