Busy Saturday night and they sat us within minutes of our 8:00 reservation. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great waiter. The steamed mussels were the 2nd best Ive ever had…..Bar italia in the CWE is the best. GIrlfriend had a vegetarian plate of Polenta and various grilled mushrooms. We eat out alot and at mostly the best resturaunts in town and she said that this may have been her favorite dish ever. I tried some and it was great. I had the beef medallions over their mashed potatoes with a sauce lighty drizzled over the top. Was very good as well. Only down side is that upon making my reservation 4 days early I specified a romantic, qiueter spot. Had been here before and knew it is quite loud and crowded but there were a few tucked away spots. We were sat in the middle of a row of 8-9 tables in the middle of the room upstairs. Not a big deal but also was not what we requested. For a romantic dinner???…no for great food and especially a group of 4 or more….yes.

Recently had dinner here w/a group of friends. Great atmosphere, even though it was busy, it was easy to have a conversation. Very cozy. Really surprised by how good the food was….satisfying soup (especially on such a cold night), tasty entrees in the perfect portions (not too much, not too little). We had cajun shrimp, the risotto special (I believe it was w/scallops and truffle oil, it was fabulous), and the pork tenderloin was excellent and the raspberry jalapeno sauce complimented it well. Will definitely be back.

After a long (but wonderful) day at the St. Louis Zoo my boyfriend and I decided to try Atlas for dinner, which turned out to be right down the street. Despite out t-shirt and jeans (zoo friendly) attire we were given a warm welcome. The staff was very knowledgeable and approachable. I had the butternut squash soup, beat salad with walnuts and goat cheese, and for my main course the polenta with spinach, corn, and sweet and green peppers. The butternut soup was smooth and creamy but not too rich. The salad was fresh and perfectly dressed – the beets were amazing. The polenta was hearty, but was balanced out by the roasted vegetables. My boyfriend (who is a chef) had the gnocchi with parmesan Reggiano cream sauce and vegetables (good but not notable), and for his main course the duck with spiced cabbage and apple, green beans and cherry tomatoes. The duck was tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. The portions sizes were generous (in fact, we didn’t have room for dessert). Appet

The moment you walk through the doors into the intimate surroundings, you realize the service at Portabella is impeccable. We took far too long to decide what to order, and loved everything that was brought to us. Try the fresh fish – the Mahi Mahi and Yellowfin were amazing! The wine selection is unbeatable. They let us stay far too late, yet made us feel quite welcome
