Had dinner here on Friday night – it was packed! Definitely a popular destination for a Friday night dinner, although it seemed heavily populated with international tourists/businessmen. Not being able to decide on what to order, we went with the Bento dinner – a little sampling of everything. The sushi was delicious, as were the accompaniments included on the Bento. We ordered the Sake Sangria, which had little to no alcohol in it – disappointing for $14/glass. Dessert, which was included, was delicious. Just enough food to be full but not bursting at the seams. It is a bit pricey, but I suggest going all in for the food, and then choosing a pub on the Bowery for a drink or 2.Pros + Sushi, StaffCons – Price, Drinks
My wife, our nephew, a friend and I dined at bluechili Saturday night and had a nice time. The description of the restaurant on this web site was apt: laid back, not crowded and good food.We shared a couple appetizers calimari (well done), thai hand rolls (interesting) and steam dumplings (ok). The sushi ordered was above average, but the chili chicken was perfect. My wife had the chicken pad thai which she enjoyed and I reheated the next day). Although I could tell his experience was mixed, our nephew gave the California roll a “thumbs-up.”(Disclaimer: when our nephew [age 9] stated he wanted to try sushi, I chose the restaurant for its location to my corporate apartment in HK. Obviously, kids + sushi = uneasy dining experience.)For dessert, we ordered the fried ice cream (again, interesting) and the steamed pear a la mode (tasty) and left quite satisfied. The wait staff was polite and attentive and allowed us plenty of time for after dinner conversation (there was
I usually go for the 5 dollar happy hour (yoga teacher in trainig) it fits the budget… but that said, it is a classy place. The decor is delicious and the bartenders once they see you around a bit are quite gregarious. They make you feel comforable like hey, it’s quite all right to sit there was past happy hour with out ordering a lot of drinks. I try to recommend it to anyone in the area and I have gone on several after work outings. Good music, too…. Check it out. It won’t disappoint especially when you walk in and think oh dear this could be attitude city but not. Good stuff. Pros + all good Cons – no bad
I went to Kion for a group dinner this weekend and I must say the food was fabulous. I tried a variety of things – some sushi rolls, eel nigiri, Coco Tuna Ceviche and a cilantro based seafood soup. Everything was good, but the Cilantro based Seafood Soup was amazing! They did not skimp on the seafood at all – it was full of octopus, squid, mussels, clams – and the flavor was absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed my food! The service is really bad (they took forever and they kept getting our drink orders wrong; they were also very surly), but I would overlook that to enjoy the delicious food and the fun atmosphere there. The ambiance was gorgeous – for a large group, try to get the table where you can sit on the floor. Beware, after hours it becomes a club and they charge cover. On Saturday – at around 10:30/11pm the music was very electro/techno and it was populated by a lot of super Goth types so if that’s not your season, wrap up your dinner by then.Pros + Delicious Food,
Thursday night was my husband and my 10th wedding anniversary. When I called the Red Cat to confirm our reservation for dinner, I told the reservationist that it was our 10th anniversary and requested a good table. She said she’d reserve one of the corner tables. Due to terrible traffic I ended up being 15 minutes late. My husband was already at the restaurant and told the staff I was late, and they were incredibly nice about it, telling him not to worry and to enjoy a cocktail. I finally arrived, and they brought us to our table, which was in a cozy corner of the restaurant. Next they surprised us each with a glass of champagne to congratulate us. That alone would have left me very pleased with our experience. It got even better. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped us in selecting our wine (an excellent sancerre), appetizers (the seared diver scallops and tempura green beans), and entrees (the salmon and the brook trout). Everything was excellent. The sugar snap, shiitaki, an
