I was pleasantly surprised by Uptown Lounge. I’ve been dating a girl who lives on the UES for a few months, so I’ve been spending lots of time up there lately and trying a bunch of the bars/restaurants. Most of the places we’ve gone so far are either dive bar with kids that just graduated college yesterday, or stuck-up, old UES people. Uptown was different. It was a good mix of younger and older people, it was nice but not stuffy, people weren’t spilling drinks on us like the bars on 2nd Ave, and the food was actually really good. We sat at the bar for a while and the bartender was great – he made great drinks and was cordial and quick. We ate at the bar as well, and I was impressed with the food. We split an appetizer, and a chicken dish with mushrooms and tomatoes and artichokes that was great. The only downside I found of the place was getting in – there are so many doors on the building front that it was kind of hard to find our way in. Once we did, I was glad we made it.Pros +

The space is very nice, and the ambience is relaxed and fun, given that it’s right in the middle of the Meatpacking. Our expereince was pretty much ruined by the bad service. Our waiter was fine, but the timing of everything was terrible (not sure whose fault that was). We waited over TWENTY minutes for our bottle of wine to come to the table – our waiter explained that this was because the wine cellar was waaaay below ground. Umm…okay. We were happy after we finally got the wine, but then, when our food came, it came all at once – our cold appetizers AND our hot entrees. No good resaurant ever lets this happen. Someone else delivered the food, so we let our server know what happened. He just apologized and asked if we wanted anything else. Yeah, how about fix the problem? Obviously this was really annoying, and we had to rush through the appetizers so the entrees weren’t completely cold when we got to them. Not how one wants to enjoy a meal. The food was okay, not special. We actual

A little late with my review but here it is nonetheless. I had a birthday party here in Nov. ’09 with abt 70 people. I worked with the party coordinator, John, who was very accommodating with the menu. I had quite a few small children there and wanted something they could eat and he threw in some pizzas & mozzarella sticks. I thought I would have to sacrifice one of my menu selections but didn’t have to. The atmosphere is nice & casual. Someplace you would come for a nice brunch on a weekend and I plan to. My friends loved the place and thought the food was very good. I would definitely do another party here!!Pros + Very easy to work with (JOHN), good food and atmosphere

Went back to Blue Ribbon for my 2nd time on Friday night… my group (5 people… they don’t take reservations unless you’re 5 or more) had a 1am reservation so we could make a night out of it. We brought 5 bottles of good wine with us and paid the corking fee ($25/each… a BIT high for me but, still cheaper than buying 5 bottles)… the wait staff could not have been any better. We tasted the wines throughout the night with out waiter(s) and we even decanted one bottle. Started with a massive 3-tier raw bar platter loaded with pretty much everything, including some of the special oysters (DELICIOUS) and crawfish (also a special). Afterwards, we just had to order more oysters (12 more) and crawfish (another pound). The raw bar here is simply delicious. I ate a hangar steak for my entree… as before it was phenomenal and happened to go very well with the bottle of wine we were drinking at the time. We had a banana split for dessert and I had a glass of port to finish up the nig
