Where is the Best Trendy Scene in Minneapolis, Minnesota?

I went with some business associates on a Tuesday night. We didn’t have reservations but they weren’t busy and could easily accomodate us. Our server was very good. She managed to be there when we needed her but she was not intrusive. The food was good but not great. Starters were well received. The mushroom rissotto is enough to get me back. Two of us at the table ordered the rissotto and after the first bite neither said much until the plate was empty. Two others had theScallop Starter and raved which prompted me to order it as my entree. Things went a little wrong after that. My scallops could have been warmer but I didn’t send them back. One person at the table stated there was so much going on with his walleye dish that he wasn’t sure he ever tasted the walleye or could say for certain that it was walleye on the plate. I didn’t have dessert but did taste one of the specials, a passion fruit sorbet. It was so good, I’m thinking about going just for dessert. I do rec

I’ve been a foodie in the Twin Cities for years now, and I opted to give Cafe Lurcat another try (I’ve visited several times over the years). I honestly don’t get it, this restaurant (by the D’Amico company) tries to be an upscale restaurant, but it isn’t particularly good at anything. The food is above average for a restaurant of this type (as an experienced local, there are much better in Minneapolis, but you can look them up).The service was lackluster. I’ve been to various Michelin starred restaurants elsewhere, and you can tell when you have a server that (1) knows the menu well, (2) cares about your experience, and (3) orchestrates the meal well. Our server only showed competence in (1), the other two categories were markedly inferior. Now, perhaps it wouldn’t be fair to compare to the best restaurants in the world, but I’ve seen servers at various restaurants in the Twin Cities that also score well in all three categories. The best word for our server (and her associated

Calamari: lightly breaded and deep fried, comes with mayo-type dip on a swirl of tomatoes and cilantro. Tasty but ordinary. Lobster Tacos: three, crispy, blue-corn taco shells filled with corn, cheese and lobster (yummy spices, bits of onion or peppers, too). The lobster was in large chunks, some identifiable claw meat. Marvelous! Served with black beans which were dull. Accompaniments: a tad of guacamole and crumbled bits of queso fresco. YUMMY!!! A terrific blend of textures. Price: $19. Tres leches cake. Had it on two occasions perfectly soaked outer layer, next layer was a bit dry, center again very moist. Great flavor, soaked or not. Mention soaking it more when you order it! Splurge and check this place out. Its not the BIG food you get at Oceanaire but not a la carte either. Other appetizers weve had proved to be interesting, of high quality and very tasty.Pros + valet parking, interesting food, decent value

My husband & I have been loyal to Solera (we had the luck of making dinner reservations for New Year’s, so we did not get stuck out in the cold or miss out on our money’s worth of drinks). My only reservation with this restaurant is the dessert menu. Being the chocolate person that I am, it’s extremely disappointing to see that 99% of it does not include chocolate (the exception being the dessert sampler, which includes a tiny chocolate cookie ice cream sandwich). I know the owners read these postings, so please add some chocolate! Thanks!Pros + Excellent Food, Service, & AtmosphereCons – The Most Important Part – Dessert!

Stopped in here just for drinks before meeting friends at a different place. We sat at the bar. The bartender did make some great drinks but the service was slow. Apparently they had a DJ coming in too, because he was setting up while we were drinking. The place still has it’s ambience and some of the trendy crowd still seems to be there, but it’s lost some of it’s lustre. I don’t know that this can be attributed just to Fhima’s though. For a while there St. Paul was the scene when all the places clustered around Lawson were new. They drew some of the Minneapolis crowd away and some of the 9 to 5’ers stuck around to check out the new places, but I think on the whole for the trendy scene St. Paul is played out. It seems with the new bars and clubs opening, once again Minneapolis is the late night destination.Pros + Still the same Fhima’sCons – *STILL* the same Fhima’s
