Where is the Best Tanning Salon in New York, New York?
Portofino Tanning is the best tanning salon in New York City (perhaps in the world), hands down.The staff is unusually knowledgeable, friendly and eager to help. They make sure you get the deepest tan possible without burning. They take the time to get to know each customer and always check in with me to see how I like my tanning results. The managers are in the salon on a regular basis and know every customer by name. Walk in the front door and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a party with a group of old friends. The beds are always clean and they have XM radios set up in each room. The have a variety of other services available too like teeth whitening and spray tans, but I haven’t tried those yet myself. (I have been meaning to check out the UV free sprays) It IS a little odd that they are tucked away on the 4th floor.Bottom line: I’ll never tan anywhere else!Pros + great tanning results, employees go above and beyond, cleanCons – on the 4th floor, hard to find
This is a great place to go get a tan if you are living in the Park Slope area. The staff is usually friendly and helpful, and they don’t push you to buy lotions or packages. (However, they can provide useful advice on the best lotions if you do want to buy them.) The beds and rooms are always clean, the light bulbs get changed on a regular basis, and I always walk out of this place feeling refreshed, warm and a little browner. The only reason I don’t give this place 5 stars is the pricing schema: it is very expensive and if you are on a student or the budget of a young professional, can be a little difficult to manage. You can get cheaper tans in our local hair or nail salons, but this place has far better beds and bulbs, so the price is worth it if you are interested in staying tan.Pros + great atmosphere, nice beds, clean rooms, tidy bathroomCons – very expensive, sometimes staff can come across as a little snooty
I always walked by Portofino and recently noticed their sign advertising teeth whitening. I have been meaning to whiten my teeth for a while, but I wasn’t sure how good it would be at a tanning place. I was actually impressed with the results.1) I came in and filled out some paperwork-nothing crazy-dental history, contact info etc.2) The technician took me back and set me up in a room in a chair-where i stayed for an hour. 3) She talked me through the procedure, gave me protecting stuff for my gums and lips, slapped a bib and goggles on me and gave a mouthpiece with gel in it.4) I napped for 20 minutes while this blue light whitened my teeth.5)repeat X36) I rinsed my mouth out, brushed-up my teeth, and walked away with teeth 5 shades lighter.Overall-it was clean, the girl was friendly and the teeth stuff worked well. I guess I give 4 stars instead of 5 because it is done by technician, not a doctor and it IS in a tanning salon. otherwise-i liked it.Pros + clean, cheap st
Tamar has been tanning me for years, as well as my friends. I have always been extremely satisfied and happy. There have been times while I was away on vacation or Tamar wasn’t available so I had to go to other tanning salons. She knocks them out of the water!!!! Unlike these salons (they try to figure out all sorts of ways to make your service more expensive, brushes, powder applications, blah blah blah) she comes in and does a quick spray and is in and out. She also doesn’t mark the service up 200% just because she is providing the service in the convenience of your home! I’ve never had a glow by anyone else that lasts the way hers does!
