Where is the Best Takeout in Austin, Texas?
My family was gifted with a delicious spiral cut ham and baked potato casserole from Texas Honey Hams last month when my dad passed away. The sprial ham is a delicious smokey sweet manna from heaven and great served either hot or chilled, and the potato casserole is a twice baked blend with cheese, ham bits, sour cream and butter. The flavors take comfort food to the highest level. I found the shop for myself last week and the staff let us taste test the take out menu – the ham bone soup and tomato bisque were rich and hearty options for a weekday lunch or dinner, or a welcome take out gift for anyone needing recuperation. This little gem of a place is a real sparkler, and I am sharing it with everyone I know in South Austin. Great customer service and home made flavors reminded me of the best cooks I knew as a child. Totally excellent experience. Pros + Very casual dining, but who cares when the food and service are this good?Cons – It is set back from the road; a bit har
This food is delicious! I work downtown and my office was having a training so we ordered Take-out from Portabla. We all ordered these Panini sandwiches and they were YUM! They had basil pesto and provolone cheese…my favorites!! The homemade cookies were delicious! Plus, the service was GREAT! Let me tell you what happened: They forgot one of the sandwiches and I was picking everything up. I should have checked. I felt so bad, but since we were in training I couldn’t get back in my car to get it. So I called to let them know and the CHEF/OWNER agreed to bring it to our office HIMSELF. Now that’s service! Who does that anymore? I know he’s a new owner for this restaurant and I guess he’s aiming to impress! Mission accomplished! I can’t wait to go and try it for dinner!Pros + Delicious Gourmet Food, Excellent ServiceCons – I wish they delivered lunch to downtown!
I’m sorry, Hey Cupcake. I want to join in on the hype and talk about how wonderful your cupcakes are, but I can’t. I appreciate the former employee’s comment about the buttercream recipe, as well as the fact that they don’t use shortening. At the same time, I can’t help but wonder why the frosting tastes a little off. I know compared to someone who actually makes cupcakes for a living, I probably appear ignorant, but one of my hobbies is trying cupcakes at different bakeries all over the US. I had not found any cupcake shops that really stick out in Austin, so I was hoping Hey Cupcake would change that. I love that you make the cupcakes rich (butter=love), but the flavor of the cake is plain bland, and the frosting tastes ordinary. I love all of the marketing efforts. Your trailer is so cute, and I like the TV in your store that’s supposed to look like a window to the trailer. Being said, the former employee’s comment about going to HEB or getting Duncan Hines if some of us think it’s
