Where is the Best Tailor in Austin, Texas?
Don’t let the Chronicle post of Best In Austin throw you off. The service here (Far West location) is impersonal, expensive, and not that skilled. The staff here seem to get along great with each other, but don’t have much warmth for the customers. I didn’t get the impression they cared about my expensive new suit, and sure enough, even though I made a big deal about the pants legs needing to be different lengths by about an inch, and even though both legs were pinned, they were whacked off and hemmed to exactly the same length, requiring a re-do. Some experienced pinning with the jacket would have also resulted in something that fits better as well. The result was an expensive alterations job and a suit that doesn’t fit well as it should.
These ladies are wonderful!!!! I just picked up a dress that I was having them fix the straps on. (A previous alterations place had really done a horrible job. They hadn’t shortened the straps enough and they were different lengths! I couldn’t believe it, I mean its not rocket science, right?) Anyways, I heard about Marfiel’s on citysearch, and thought I’d give them a try. When I dropped off the dress, the sweet woman told me it would be $15. Great, I thought. Well when I went to pick up the dress, not only did it fit perfectly….but she also wrote on the sales ticket $12 for the alterations. I gave the woman $20, and said keep it. She was so thankful, but I’m the one that is sooooo grateful, this dress is going to be perfect for my rehearsal dinner!!!Pros + friendly service, price, quickCons – small parking in front…not a big deal
Gassane Tailors is a small place in NW Austin, that does an incredible job tailoring clothes.I’ve gotten suits and shirts tailored here and everything is done with great precision and quality.Pricing does seem to be on the high-end and I wish the tailors were a little more receptive to how the customer would define a good fit.They tend to lean toward the traditional side of fit, while I like a very modern, very slim cut, and I always feel like I get some resistance to my requests.
