Where is the Best Sushi in Cleveland, Ohio?
Kimo’s Sushi Shop has the authentic flavors of home that I miss, being so far away from Hawaii. The atmosphere is inviting, comfortable, and laid back. The Hawaiian decor is tasteful with Hawaiian music playing in the background unobtrusively. Service is prompt and very friendly, and the restaurant is clean. As others have mentioned, the menu is diverse but not intimidating. Sushi is presented exquisitely and the flavors blend very well. I always order Kimos fresh spin on what is typically boring inari sushi. Last week Friday, I ordered the plate lunch and instantly became homesick! It included kalua pork (shredded pork with a smoky flavor), teriyaki chicken, shrimp tempura, kimchi, potato salad, chow fun, and haupia (coconut dessert). Ono (delicious)!Pros + Authentic, Quality and freshness, Great service
I really enjoy hibachi style cooking, but was disappointed with the “show”, there was very little to entertain, and it felt I could have had just as much fun watching anyone cook. The prices felt more like paying for 5 stars and getting only 3 star service and food. Portions were less than generous, especially for the price, I only ordered shrimp stir fry and I believe it was $16, I definitely felt ripped off when he finally gave me my portion. Saki was also priced very high, for what they called large it cost I believe $12, it was hardly enough to make me forget about how much the bill was going to be. Spent over $100 for two people and left feeling very unsatisfied. Good points I’ll add, are, good sauces, decent soup, fair salad, open atmosphere, but bottom line was that value for money spent simply wasn’t there. I’d recommend sitting at the tables in the dining section and forget the hibachi grills.
Staying in Lake County, read the very mixed reviews, tried it out. I had heard other things about this place, mostly good, so I made the drive. I’m glad I did, more than once. I think this place is great. Although the fish selection was a bit limited, the quality was superb. The hamachi melted in my mouth it was so rich and the fresh salmon was also very good. The scallops were sweet and tender and the saba was seasoned with the perfect amount of salt and vinegar. The sushi rice was perfect not too sweet, salty, or sour. The food from the kitchen was exceptional as well. The presentation was simple yet well done, not OVER done or elaborate. We tried the vegetable gyoza, beef negimayaki, squid steak, and the crab cakes. All were excellent. The Japanese noodle were a real treat. Liked the kakiyage (sp?) udon and really like the soba noodles with tempura. The teriyaki seafood skewers and teriyaki steak were outstanding. You can tell this sauce did not come out of a bottle, they put time
