Where is the Best Sushi in Austin, Texas?

My wife and I have driven by this place many times and never knew it was there. We were walking downtown and stumbled on to it and decided to check it out. The restaurant is small and narrow in the front with tables for two, and towards the back opens up for tables with 4 or more guests. It has a very chill eclectic vibe to it but not too trendy. We sampled their baked mussel clams (very good; ask for the spicy version), seaweed salad, and miso soup – all good. I had the 15 piece sashim combo and my wife had the Spicy Tekka Don (spicy sashimi tuna over rice) and split an order of spicy tuna roll. The Spicy Tekka Don was fantastic and very filling – we were very surprised by the portion (enough for two). The sashimi combo was good but not the best Ive had (Musashino). The spicy tuna roll was bland after having the tekka don. Overall the experience was great. The wait staff was prompt and courteous. We have been back since and really enjoy. I would recommend this place for a ca

The staff at Maiko are truly the best in Austin. An excellent experience started as we entered the door of the restaurant. We were warmly greeted by the hostess given the best seat in the house and began a wonderful evening enjoying our favorite sushi and sashimi. Our waiter was one of the best and very knowledgeable of the menu and he took the time to give us delicious details of every dish that we ordered. To our delight as we began to order, the waiter brought to our attention that we were on time for the Maiko Sushi Happy Hour, on a Saturday Night WOW! It is difficult to choose a favorite, each and every dish was prepared to perfection. But, one you must taste is the Spider Roll. Very tasty with crispy softshell crab and a spicy aioli with avocado and cucumber. When we were preparing to leave the owner came to our table thanked us for coming to Maiko and asked how we enjoyed the meal. What a great experience!Pros + Valet parking, wonderful ambience

A friend took me to lunch yesterday (Feb. 9) at Kona Grill in the Domaine. What a sophisticated, serene atmosphere! The waiter, Jason, was cordial and professional. I decided to order the pulled pork sandwich, something I don’t usually order, but it sounded delicious. Beautiful presentation, some of the worst food I have had in such an upscale restaurant. The sandwich had small bits of pork in overly sweet sauce. The main filler was skin and fat. I couldn’t eat it. The slaw was so drenched in mayo dressing, it was nauseating. The huge thick onion ring was barely passable. When I ordered the ginger peach tea, a bottle and glass of ice was delivered — more expensive, no refills. This was the kind of meal I would have sent back — except I was being treated and didn’t want to spoil the ambiance. I may go back and give Kona a second chance, but I definitly won’t order the pork sanwich. It should be pulled from the menu.

My S.O. and I dropped by the Bistro at a family member’s recommendation. We couldn’t decide between the sushi bar and the dining room, but eventually we opted for the plush chairs and white tablecloths in the main room (you can get sushi anywhere in the place). There are, incidentally, some pretty excellent paintings on the walls, which don’t exactly make sense alongside the blue aquariums of fake jellyfish and waterfalls, but whatever. My S.O. and I both get easily overwhelmed by the size of entrees, and the Bistro’s menu was so varied and long, we decided it would be a great chance to taste a lot of little things. We started backwards, in a way, moving from potstickers to the lamb chops appetizer (accompanied by a good glass of cab), then switching to the sushi menu (and sauv blanc). Apologies to food purists who would have reversed the order, but we just ordered what sounded good as we felt like it, and man, it was good that way. I especially recommend the lamb (!!!) and the spicy

I personally do not like the location of the restaurant because it’s off a highway in a plaza that can be quickly overlooked. Luckily, the design on the outside made it nearly impossible for you to miss it. Interior wise was really nice-black, red and white were the dominant colors. Sushi and sushi rolls were pretty expensive, but if you order the bento box it’s not too bad (~$15) and has a ton of sushi and a long roll. I ordered 2 rolls: spider and philadelphia. My server was really nice and gave me a miso soup for free because my two other friends ordered bento boxes that came with miso soup. My rolls came and I pretty much became disappointed from there. Bento boxes include a california roll, but you can “substitute” by adding more money. Each of my friends’ rolls from their bento box had 8 pieces. However, my two rolls only had 5 pieces each. I am not sure why it is less, and I felt kind of gypped. The spider roll was okay; each piece of the philadelphia roll was big and didn’t loo
