Where is the Best Steak in San Francisco, California?
I wanted to go some place special for my birthday so I picked Ruth Chris. I had a memorable meal here about 8 years ago. This time it was memorable for the wrong reasons. First of all..when did the menu go from “expensive” to “house payment”. Seriously. If you’re ordering ala carte, be prepared to splurge. I do need to say our waitress was absolutely amazing but here is the problem..we both had to send our steaks back. Mine, which I ordered medium, was almost raw and my partners, which he ordered medium well was a piece of meat that had died twice. It was a bit odd too, that when we sent back the second steak, some guy we hadn’t seen brought it back. As if to say, hey deal with me if you have a third complaint. Wierd. Hey, everyone should know by now what a medium and medium well steak looks like..and it wasn’t a busy night. Cook the steak right the first time, we’re talking about a $65 piece of meat. So, we won’t be going back there for steak. The place is beautiful and comfortable bu
All of the dishes we ordered were delicious. For the 2 of us we got 3 small plates & 1 big plate & shared everything. The ?A La Mexicana? ceviche was one of the best I?ve ever had ? very fresh tasting! (Their ceviche is served with only 2 plantain chips so be sure to order a side of the chips if you want to eat the ceviche with something crunchy.) The cornmeal biscuits with melted cheese (Arepas de Queso) melted in my mouth & the Peruvian Chicken Empanadas were extremely flavorful. The Lomo Saltado was a great dish to share or order as an entree ? hearty & a great mix of flavors. The mini alfajores cookies they serve at the end of the meal are cute & tasty!!! Between the 2 of us we had 3 drinks which made the total: $40/person. A little pricey but worth the trip 🙂
Ask someone to list a great steakhouse in SF and theyll usually cite House of Prime Rib or Ruths Chris. Izzys should be added to the list as the prices are definitely more than reasonable compared to what youd pay at the two aforementioned establishments and the food is just as good. When you step into Izzys its usually quite busy and waits may be a while since Izzys doesnt really take reservations unless theyre early before 6pm or late after 8pm. Luckily their bar has whatever libations you could think of and plenty of televisions broadcasting sporting events so you can pass the time.Once seated it comes down to the waitstaff you have. I would have downgraded Izzys a star because our initial waitress was really high and mighty and was probably on the tail end of a bad shift and she made sure that we knew about it.Nonetheless the food definitely was the shining moment of the evening. Izzys potatoes are a heavenly mix of scalloped potatoes that comes as one of your two sides for any entr
Just came back from a holiday lunch with 35 coworkers at Espetus. I collected $31 including tax and tip from everyone. The staff had told me over the phone that drinks were extra ($4-$6 is what they said) so I figured we would just have water. They asked if we’d like sparking or still water so we asked for still water. HUGE mistake. Because I neglected to say JUST PLAIN TAP WATER, the bill arrived with a charge of $159.39 for bottled WATER. I suppose I should have asked how much for water, but I had no idea it would be almost $5 each for WATER!! C’mon people!! You’re charging $23.95 for a lunch buffet (Double that for dinner)! Could you at least include the WATER or warn me that you charge $7 a bottle!!!???Pros + Good FoodCons – Too Expensive
The food was very good. Steaks were very tasty and tender, osso bucco is outstanding. We were there with a large group of people and everyone enjoyed their food. We had a great waiter who was friendly and attentive; he checked back with us regularly. The only down fall of our experience came after the meal. The lady who took out coats and seated us was not very friendly. After spending over $500 for a meal she was not willing to call us a cab. It was pouring down rain and although the Hilton was just around the corner, we had trouble hailing a cab. It was as simple as picking up the phone, but she gave us a real attitude. She was so rude, it put a damper on the good meal we just had.Pros + Great Steaks, we had a good waiterCons – location and the rude people at the front desk
