Where is the Best Steak in Richmond, Virginia?
My family and I visited Firebirds’s for the first time last night, and were blown away with the food and the service. We arrived around 5:30 and were seated pretty quickly. The hostess was very friendly and the decor was very warm it felt like you were dining in a wilderness lodge. Our server was very good! He recommended the lobster queso, which we ordered and was delicious. I had the pork tenderloin and my husband had the bleu cheese filet. Both entrees were excellent! One of the things that really surprised me was how well they catered to our children. The kid’s menu has a wide variety of choices. My daughter had the grilled chicken with mashed potatoes an fresh fruit, and my other daughter had macaroni and cheese with carrot sticks and cinnamon apples. (and we’re not talking Kraft macaroni, this was penne pasta tossed in a cheese sauce). Our server asked if we wanted the kids order to come out as soon as it was ready, and always made sure that their drinks were full. Ju
Average filet and below average salmon. Baked potato and mashed potatoes were also very ordinary. Service was average to slow, even though there were only a few others having dinner. Better food and service at their cheaper chain, Outback – and, just about all of the other chains (Topekas, Hops, even Lone Star). There was nothing really bad, just nothing great either, and certainly nothing to justify their prices. Don’t understand how they get away with it when there are so many other places to go in the area, although at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, they were almost empty and maybe others are also going elsewhere. Finally, it really is distractive to have the flatware immediately removed, and the table wiped down, after each course. Pros + Not many people there, not busy, didn’t have to wait for a table. Cons – Ordinary food, below average service, with higher than normal prices.
The ambience is great, but the food quality is not consistent. I do NOT recommend the oyster chowder; they say it has butternut squash in it but I could not detect it at all, and the oysters were VERY sandy. The crab croquette appetizer was good, but the dipping sauces included were average. My friend got the Chicken Chesapeake which was amazing – chicken topped with crab, sundried tomatoes, shitake mushrooms in a cream sauce – delicious. I’d recommend lunch there; dinner is way too expensive.Pros + ambienceCons – price of dinner for what you get
If you’re like me and decide WHAT you want to eat before WHERE you want to eat, Wagstaff’s is the place for you . . . if you want the best steak in town. Select your cut at your table in a cozy atmosphere geared toward family dining. Great service and excellent beef easily make this my favorite restaurant in the Richmond area. If you want a wide variety of dishes – – go somewhere else. If you want a top notch steak dinner at a reasonable price, go to Wagstaff’s.
