My wife and I attended La Traviata at the Zeller Auditorium last Friday night, and we dined at Carafe both before and afterward. We have eatten at Carafe numerous times the past 4 years, and we have always found the food and service to be excellent (my wife is a professionally trained chef, and we dine out often). We arrived at the restaurant, prior to the show, without reservations, and we were quickly seated. We told our server we would be attending the opera that evening, and that we were looking to have a small bite before the show. Our server suggested a couple of dishes, and my wife and I shared the tureen of rabbit- it was tasty; served with a small dish of tomato relish that was a perfect compliment to the rabbit. We set a reservation for after the show before we left the restaurant, and once again upon our return, we were promptly seated. The menu after the opera was a limited offering of classic Bistro fare, and my wife and I each dined on the steak frites. The food w

We went there for an early dinner and had a gift certificate for $25 given to us by one of our kids. We were greeted pleasantly. We presented the certificate to our waitress and she said we were required to spend at least $35 in order to use the certificate. There weren’t a many choices in order for us to spend that amount. In order to do that, we both ordered the steak dinners. Husband had filet mignon which he said was good. I ordered the New York steak and it was overdone and didn’t even taste like beef. It had a strange texture and a strange taste. The mashed potatoes were real, but the gravy was dark, dark brown and didn’t taste homemade. Both dinners were served with a piece of toast. The salads didn’t seem real fresh either. Overall, we were very disappointed. I took more than half my steak home and fed it to the dogs. We won’t be going back.Pros + Service was goodCons – Meal wasn’t good

No more tableside cooking: Used to be five stars now four stars. New chef and no tableside cooking is a big change for us. The food is still very good and John Louie is the best waiter in Portland. I hope they bring back the tableside service. That is a big problem for us.Stu CookPros + best waiter in portland is John LouieCons – no more tableside cooking

Chef Chris Thompson has done an incredible job of presenting excellent Italian Food that compares with the East Coast Italian Dining Experience. We were asked when making our reservation, if anyone in our party had a food allergy the chef should be aware of. A huge bonus before we even arrived. When arriving, we were greeted by a delightful hostess who seated us right away even though our dining companions were running a little late. Erin, (our charming, beautiful, intelligent, and personable waitress was marvelous) assured us not to worry and we had wine and some of the best calamari ever while waiting. When our friends arrived, they were seated immediately and had wine and salad, after which our orders were taken for entrees. Two lasagnas, one catch of the day, and one pasta specialty of the house with Italian sausage. All four, perfectly prepared, served eye appealingly, and delish beyond words.I was invited to come back to the kitchen to meet the chef after offering our co

I have to say that my experience at the Gresham Outback was a 10 out of 10! The food was great, the atmosphere was awesome and out of every server I have ever had the pleasure of sharing my company with in my 35 years of dinning experience, the server we had at Outback was the best! His name was Tin and he gave me and my family service that was more than incredible. Never once did we have to ask for anything, he talked to us and made us feel comfortable and gave us a “walkabout” through the menu. This is the kind of server that more restaurants need. Thank You Outback and thank you Tin!Pros + SERVICE!!!
