Where is the Best Steak in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?
The last high end steak house in Pittsburgh I had yet to visit. I unknowingly saved the best for last. I was reading this site post-dinner with no intention of adding a review but had to write a counter to what obviously are either people that haven’t actually been there or employees of the other steak establishments. Parking is perfectly located beside the restaurant. The square of PPG plaza was nothing short of perfect as there were ice skaters creating a mini Rockefeller Center feel. We arrived 20 minutes early and were immediately taken to our seats to my surprise as the restaurant was at capacity. The atmosphere was crowded but very nice, not loud in the least and still very high end in feel. The wait staff was numerous and didn’t seem to take a breath in attempt to please the diner. Our waitress was very informative, pleasant, and talkative but not to an annoying extent. She made frequent stops to check on us. For an app I had the blackened scallops in pesto, wonderful. M
The staff was excellent including a very friendly hostess. Despite the menu being only two pages, there was a HUGE array of daily specials without prices. Goat, lamb, pigs, seafood from all over… the list was way too extensive for a diner to contemplate and really know what they were having to pay. The serving sizes were huge; highly recommend ordering one dish per couple and sharing. Produce was not fresh – tomatoes served in salad were not ripe; side of vegetables (carrots, broccoli and snow peas) looked like they were of cheap quality, overcooked, previously frozen or all of the above. Ordered the wild boar. While it was tasty, it wasn’t as fresh tasting as I imagined it would be. With so many daily specials, such a small restaurant could only offer so many dishes if food was frozen, especially meats and seafood. Tried a scallop from my husband’s dish; it was by far the least fresh scallop I have tasted in the Pittsburgh area. Strongly suggest that the menu is made smal
My wife and I dine out very frequently, and visit many resturant locations in the Pittsburgh/ Mon Valley area’s. We had visited the Pittsburgh Steak Company in recent past, and the atmosphere was just too busy, uncomfortable for our liking. The steak’s that were served to us didn’t stand out in quality/ flavor compared to other steak houses/ resturants, and had an above average amount of fat in them. They also weren’t prepared as requested, and the meat was actually tough, rather than tender. The overall cost of the meal was pricey, considering the quality of steak served. Compared to other places that we have visited, we definately wouldn’t recommend the Pittsburgh Steak Company to friends who would expect a comfortable dining atmosphere, along with a quality steak.Cons – Crowded, Expensive, Steak/ food just bare
The SceneLarge families, groups of adults, and couples all enjoying the food-lover’s delight. One can eat till they are filled, and flip a marker (red on one side, green on the other) to tell the waiter to stop. Sounds easy, but with the choices and quality, it’s hard to say no. The FoodThere is a large salad bar, plus a long steam table, filled with traditional dishes such as beans and rice, as well as baked fish dishes and even spaghetti in clam sauce. But the big draw is the grilled meats: at least twelve on weeknights, more on weekends. Beef predominates, from ribs to flank steak to sirloin. There is also lamb, spicy pork sausages, chicken, and turkey wrapped in bacon.
