Where is the Best Steak in New York, New York?
My first time at Austin’s was an accident. I was looking for a different local steakhouse. I decided to go in. From the outside it doesn’t look like much. Once inside I was surprised. The mellow adult atmosphere was wonderful. Sinatra/Billy Holiday music filled the space. A small but upscale bar. Very nice. The bartender could not make a bad drink. The booths were very comfortable. The service was almost too attentive. I ordered the “cowboy steak”, odd name for the atmosphere, medium. It was perfect. My guest ordered the shrimp cocktail. She loved it. My only objection were the sides which were charged separately. The steak, for Brooklyn was pricey enough. Should have came with a choice of sides. I had the brownie for dessert. It was a little too rich for my taste. FYI, the men’s room was super clean. I think that says a lot too. I went back a few days later and sat at the bar for a drink. The bartender (John) was wonderful and friendly and adult. Again every drink was perfect. Summ
I’m not the kind of person that minds spending money on a good meal, on the contrary I have spent exorbitant amounts of money on great restaurants and quality steak houses through out NYC. While there was nothing horrible at this place, there was nothing at all outstanding!….. The first thing that comes to mind on my 2 visits to this place is…..way overpriced. The food…..There were no fireworks in my palate. The Porterhouse is pretty good but it seems that they change the prices very often as the first time it was like 80 bucks, now it’s like 95 bucks……cmon ! I cant write anything bad about the food but I also cant write anything good or nothing at all great either. Both times I went it was over 150 bucks per person? The wine list had good signature stuff that you read about in Spectator or have been given great Parker scores, but of course at ridiculous prices. The sommelier on my first trip was on top of us and she was very pleasant I think they have another guy too. H
So, I had been thinking about visiting this place for months. I read reviews. I’ve heard mixed reviews. I must say that I loved it! We started out with cocktails in their beautiful lounge and then had dinner in the dining room. We were seated and promptly approached. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. We found out that she had worked there for a few years, so assumed that she would be able to give some good suggestions. And our instincts were correct! Most of our group had steaks (the “Cowboy” ribeye was AMAZING) and one in our group was convinced to try the bacon chop (something we never would have thought about, but we all tried…and loved it!) The lobster mac and cheese was to die for! Our experience was incredible and will be back again!Pros + Service, food
Ben Benson’s Steak House is the best steak house ever! I’m a big meat lover and have been to many steak houses but this still has to be my favorite place to eat. The fillet migon *mediam rare* just melts in the mouth. It has the butter sauce that adds a special touch to it. You can even ask for extra butter sauce. Their service is great and ambiance is perfect for a romantic meal!Pros + steak, service
I have eaten at alot of steak houses in nyc…the big ones and the little ones from Luggers, Mortons, Dylan’s Prime, Ben & Jacks, Sparks, Palm, Prime house, Quality Meat, BLT Prime, and many more but this is still my favorite. First and foremost the ambiance and the setting of the main dining room is far above the normal decor of steak houses. The staff (Especially our server who we request every time Neda) is experienced and knowledgeable about all dishes. My favorite steak of all time has to be their Delmonico cut with Kona sauce.Don’t ever worry about getting over cooked steak..they have a great system/ variety for temps. You can choose from the normal medium rare to a medium rare plus which is not yet medium. Wine selection can be great, especially if your company has a private shelf there, but the sides are ok. Nothing like the signature sides at quality meats, but their fresh seafood for apps is a great start. Avoid the lobster bisque at all costs thou it is very ve
