Where is the Best Steak in New York, New York?

Visiting NY from the UK for the first time we plumbed the depths of CitySearch for recommendations for a good Steak House and chose one within easy walking distance of our hotel. We’re both sure that we chose well. Sparks is large but still manages to be inviting. We were seated quickly and our allocated table served by a pleasant and attentive waiter – Juan (from Argentina, we later learned). The menu, thankfully, is very simple with only 10 or so appetisers and slightly more entrees to choose form. The same cannot be said for the winelist. That was one of the most extensive winelist we’ve been presented with in the US.Our chosen steaks were cooked to perfection as was our choice of vegetables. We really can’t find any room for criticism of the food quality (and that’s unusual for us!). Our deserts were OK – nothing remarkable or noteworthy – except that the Raspberry Romanoff didn’t live up to it’s “Rich but Good” title. As for service, Juan did a superb job. He found the right bala

Took my boyfriend to dinner with 8 of our friends last night. Wanted to sit outside but at 9pm that definitely wasn’t happening. Order a round of cocktails at the bar. My bf’s “dirty” vodka martini was best I’ve ever tasted, my henessey side, however, was heavy on lemon, light on the henny. No biggie tho. Everyone amazingly showed up on time and when I reported this to our hostess, she was a little caught off guard. Rebounding quickly she offered us a table in the main dining room adjacent to the bar. We all knew immediately it wasn’t going to work. There were only 8 real place settings around a rectangle and the loud din made it nearly impossible to hear. High ceilings and wooden floors make for super high reverb. Once we informed her of the table no go, she offiered us a table in the downstairs wine cellar. It was perfect. A round table in the corner. It was comfortably cooler than upstairs and significantly quieter. Jackpot. The food was as good as i’ve read in th

The majority of people who gave this restaurant an EXCELLENT review also gave “Excellent reviews” to all of the establishments that are part of RESTAURANT ASSOCIATES…Just look at the Profiles of the reviewers and look at the other restaurants they have reviewed…Its all a scam…I have eaten at the majority of these restaurants and please….How good can they be if they are willing to take $50 off your check for your birthday? Sub-Par at food at best at all of these establishments…What a joke.

I had reservations and had to wait 20 minutes. The bar was very crowded and they stuck us by the front door with 2 children. It was very uncomfortable and quite upsetting. Once finally seated, we placed our order. The service was good, but very unfriendly. We ordered the rib eye, porterhouse for 2 and the tuna. Both rib eye and porterhoise was good, nothing special. I’ve had bigger and better rib eye. The tuna was bland and boring, no sauces with it, just a hunk of blah looking tuna on a plate…my wife hardly touched it. Mozzarella and tomato- mozz. was good, tomatoes were hard and tasteless, obviously not ripe. Creamed spinach was bland and the german potatoes were burnt.Overall- the food was not very enjoyable, the servicers need a lesson in being friendly.Don’t bother to make a reservation because they will make you wait anyway.Pros + nothingCons – don’t honor your reservation

My experience was not stellar, but I take it with a grain of salt because I went on New Year’s Eve before hitting NYC. The steak was good, but the sides were less than excellent. The veggies were severely over cooked and a bit tasteless. The place was fairly empty (I’m assuming in anticipation for the party crowd a bit later). The wait staff tried their best and checked in on us periodically, but were no where to be found when you REALLY needed something. . .like another beer – which by the way the selection is a bit sparse. I would try it one more time before giving it a really bad review. . .Pros + Nice setting, friendly staffCons – mushy veggies & sparse beer selection
