Where is the Best Steak in Minneapolis, Minnesota?
I only knew Lindey’s from a highway sign, not by its apparently legendary reputation in the Twin Cities. However, I love good steak, and my experience has been that local steak houses beat the chains by a long shot. Lindeys was truly a unique experience. This is the kind of restaurant that locals have been coming to for years, and apparently know what they like. Lindey’s gives them exactly that and no more. There may be more nostalgia in the reviews than objective assessment of quality. The atmosphere is definitely “homey” but that can be charming in today’s overdecorated eateries. I have hardly ever been to a restaurant where there were only three choices of entre. Since the difference between the Prime Sirloin and the Special was only a dollar, everyone goes for the top-priced cut. Sixteen dollars for chopped sirloin is really absurd as a third choice. The sirloin was large (I couldn’t finish it) and reasonably well prepared, but I would have preferred a more seared exterior. It was
I’ve consumed many renditions of gyros over the decades, and this is the best I can recall having. Other Greek items were very good, too. It isn’t all Greek, though; there are many eclectic preparations as well as standards such as prime rib. Two of the four of us on a recent Friday night had fish specials which they pronounced very good. The ambience is Northwoods log cabin, so the inventive preps and the Greek food are unexpected. Even more appealing is that the prices seem to run about 30-40% less than the equivalent items at venues closer to the urban core. The sevice was friendly, although a bit slow, which we attributed to the large crowd – speaking of which, we arrived about 6:30 and had a 20 minute wait, which we understand is normal since no reservations are taken unless the party numbers at least 6. In better weather than we had (rain), there is a pleasant patio outside to which libations can be brought as one waits. I might add that the hostess, assuming she is the same one
This is my first review. The Highlander has numerous atmospheres, each of which has a terrific view and is appropriate to your dinner plans. Their main dining room features features a rich ambiance for the intimate or formal dinner. Adjacent to the main dining room is a pub with a great menu of modern and traditional beverages. For those out for a casual dinner the outdoor patio is perfect for the summer locale. The Highlanders burgers are outstanding with variations on classic combinations. The entres are well exectued variations on general menu items and range from bar fare to fabulous steaks. This barely hidden treasure is much closer to everything than you would imagine while you are enjoying the view. From the time you enter the parking lot you realize it’s definitely worth the very little out of your way you have to drive to get there. All this and service which is on a par with the most luxurius private courses. Take the extra 5 minutes and find the Highlander. You wi
Went with a party of eight. Even though the reservation was made a few days in advance, we still had to wait for over half an hour to be seated. Other parties came in and were seated after only a short wait. I could understand a bit more if the staff was waiting for a large table to open up, but we ended up being seated at two separate tables. There was no apology from the hostess for the long wait nor the poor seating arrangement. Our server was pleasant but forgetful. Maybe he didn’t feel the need to be attentive since the 20% gratuity, which was automatically added to the bill, served as a guarantee to him regardless of his below average quality of service. We found the food to be average and none of the eight of us feel this is a restaurant that warrants a return visit.Pros + Comfortable up north atmosphereCons – Our reservation was ignored; we were treated badly
