Where is the Best Steak in Minneapolis, Minnesota?
My husband and I returned last week and had a great dinner. The food is above average and they have a great wine menu as well as some choice single malt scotch selections. I do love the dark wood interior and linen clad tables. Do not come here if your sole purpose is to eat cheap. This is about dining and dining well. It’s a very civilized atmosphere and we appreciate that. There is easy parking across the street at the ramp near Kincaid’s. If you make it clear to your server that you will not be rushed they will honor that request. In fact, that is something I make clear in all restaurants and it is never a problem. Restaurants want their patrons to communicate their needs. We have also used them for business meetings and executive sessions and they have been more than accommodating. Let me begin by saying I frequent this restaurant. This place is an expierience. I think some of you bad reviewers just didn’t know what to expect. This place is like a trip back in time to the glory days of the GMen.Go without reservations and do yourself the favor of waiting for your table in the bar. The high leather booths and trim lighting (yes it is dark) are like something right out of a gangster movie, there is also a lounge area where you can get your ambiance on! Seriously, you just have to be in a Goodfellas state of mind! When you get seated in the dining room you get a great homemade relish tray (pickles,peppers &Tomatoes in italian Dressing).I reccomend the Large Fillet Steak. The point is, Don’t expect Ruth’s Cris Because it isn’t like that. It’s an ancient Char-House that has looked the same for as long as it has been there! I went there for drinks and although the bar was busy, the bartender took time to make something special. I am not a big drinker so he asked me what flavors liked, how strong I would like the drink to be, and he came up with a great custom drink! What ever he made, I love it and have gone back a few times with friends to enjoy them. Great service, ask for Ben.Pros + serviceCons – none
I have been going to Jax Cafe in Beautiful Nordeast Minneapolis since 1965. Over the years I have had club and business meetings, and business and personal lunches/dinners/brunches at Jax. I had my retirement party in the Cosmopolitan Room in 2002 with 150 guests. My church celebrated our 90th Anniversary with a dinner for 255 happy guests. I continue to see past business associates, who I previously introduced to Jax, coming in to entertain their current business contacts and to enjoy their own personal and family celebrations. The pianist plays my favorite song, “My Way” by Frank Sinatra. That’s what I always receive at Jax is, “My Way”. The food is of the highest quality, the service is excellent and friendly, and the managerial staff is always congenial and professional.
This place still has the BEST pork chops in town, but I think that since the remodeling it has gone downhill a bit. The relish tray used to be the best deal- it was free! And now it is a la carte. I would still highly recommend this place to people…The pork chops are SO worth a trip there. They also make a good martini 🙂
