Where is the Best Steak in Minneapolis, Minnesota?
Recently went to Mortons on a Thursday evening around 5:30 with a group of 3. Made reservation and was seated right away. It is located below street level so no windows and not much light, which worked with the ambience they are going for. Serice was good but I expected a little better/more attention at a high end steakhouse. Waitress brought out all the cuts of meat on a tray but it had celophane over it so some cuts were hard to see. Smoked salmon app was great. Lyonaise potatos were an excellent side dish, and the steak was about the best I have had in downtown Minneapolis. Atmosphere was ok. Had Sinatra in the back ground and some retro pictures of old Mlps, but overall pretty bland.Pros + Cajun Ribeye, Salmon, Lyonaise Potatos
Murray’s is an enjoyable way to experience an old-style steakhouse in Minneapolis. It lives up to its billing and doesn’t have pretense to being anything beyond that, so if visit the website and read about it you should know what to expect. For my pre-Orpheum Theatre dinner on a weeknight it fit our expectations well. The service was excellent and the food was served promptly. The trademark Silverbutter Knife steaks are very large so my companion and I opted for the 8 oz Dinner Steaks instead. The steaks were prepared as ordered and delicious. I am not a frequent steak eater, but enjoy well prepared quality steak and got it here. The au gratin potatoes were quite good. I choose the tossed salad which was nothing special, but my companion got a beet salad, which was good and more distinctive. The dining room was not busy early on a Thursday night, but it seemed quite roomy so it could accomodate being filled. The main shortcoming I have seen mentioned in reviews here is that Murray’s
My boyfriend and I have been to Axel’s River Grille twice now and both times we have left very satisfied and happy with the experience. We were seated right away both times even though we didn’t have reservations and our servers were with us right away with waters and to take our beverage order. Their pop-up bread is excellent and goes perfectly with their brown sugar butter. I got a caesar salad (included with entree) both times and it was excellent. The meals we’ve chosen (Maria’s Chicken, Saltambocca chicken, Spicy chicken penne and the Bone-in Ribeye) have all been delicious. Their Mo’Taters are probably the best mashed potatoes I’ve ever had and their green beans that come with the meal are perfectly cooked and seasoned. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of service and atmosphere and you get a lot of food for your money. I had to box the leftovers both times I’ve been there. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a romantic, affordable date
The pork chops are huge, impressive, and way tasty. Being quite large, there is no possible way they could be cooked to order in the time afforded an average patron for dinner. Consequently they are cooked earlier and stored. This seems odd, but it is a common practice with large cuts of meat. Ok, so… I received *my* chop and it was barely warm which was unfortunate because I was quite excited. I sent it back to be reheated and it returned a bit browner but still not warm enough. I almost suggested it be brought up to a core temp of at least 150f but elected to finish it as is. If this chop was to temperature, it would have been the best one I have ever had. The apple and yam side was amazing however the rosemary garnish mildly reeked of mildew. It is the opinion of this writer that a bit more attention to the details would propel this restaurant’s stellar menu to new heights.
I read some reviews, went there as a large group for a friend’s birthday, and expected great steak which we got. It was really expensive, the most expensive meal my boyfriend and I have ever eaten, and the lobster tail was pretty good too. They have large side dishes that serve 2-3 people, I ordered the broccoli cheese au gratin, which was delicious along with a NY strip. I’d recommend trying the calamari and tuna which were presented and tasted really good. My steak was still sizzling when they brought it to my table and we were warned plenty of times that it was hot. After sampling a little bit of everything on our table, I didn’t finish my steak but brought it home and ate it the next day. The only thing I can complain about was the wait time. It took forever for our food to get to the tables (we ordered off a special & limited menu created for our party) and after we ate, it took the waitress really long to bring us our checks, and of course she took a long time bringing back the
